Shell and INPEX

At the beginning of 2014, AIMS, Shell Australia and INPEX Operations Australia announced a partnership to develop comprehensive and critical environmental baselines for waters in the Browse Basin off north-western Australia.

These environmental baselines will underpin a jointly developed Operational and Scientific Monitoring Program. This program will determine the extent, severity and persistence of impacts in the unlikely event that a significant spill occurs from the Shell-operated Prelude gas field or the INPEX-operated Ichthys gas field.

As part of this project, AIMS will also head a powerful collaborative partnership of trusted research organisations including CSIRO, the University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Monash University and the Western Australian ChemCentre.

This partnership commits expertise and equipment to provide a rapid response to examine the environmental impacts of a spill, placing Australia in a better position than ever to respond to future incidents.
