I was awarded my PhD in 2005 by Charles Darwin University. My thesis was entitled "Australian strawberry diseases", the study used molecular biology techniques to understand the organisms associated with strawberry diseases in Queensland. In 2007, my research focus shifted from plant pathology to molecular microbial ecology. Since changing fields, my research has investigated the relationship between microbial communities and metal concentrations in sediment and the water column.
My main research interest is to understand the relationship between bacterial populations and environmental conditions (such as metals concentrations) and to use the outcomes from these studies to develop microbial assessment tools that may be incorporated into routine monitoring programs.
