The Great Barrier Reef Foundation (GBRF) has announced that AIMS@JCU PhD candidate Patrick Buerger is the newest ambassador to the Great Barrier Reef. His innovative three minute video on coral disease treatment was recognised by a panel of experts as an exceptional piece of science communication, securing him first place in GBRF’s annual Bommies Award competition.
Using state-of-the-art virtual reality technology in a 360° video projection, Patrick immersed viewers directly into the science - setting apart his research and science communication talents from the fierce competition.
The first prize award of $5000 AUD will support Patrick's research and provide opportunities for further public engagement.
