Baited Remote Underwater Video system -
BRUVS consist of a galvanized roll-bar frame enclosing a simple camera housing made from PVC pipe with acrylic front and rear ports. Stabilizing arms and bait arms (20 mm plastic conduit) are attached and detached during and after deployment. A 1.5m bait arm holds a 350 mm plastic mesh bait canister containing crushed fish.

Reef Monitoring
The Status and Trends Team continues to monitor the condition of reefs in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage, a program that has been ongoing for more than a decade. The team is also involved in the development of refined survey methods and enhanced reporting for reefs in Australia and globally.

Remote data and weather stations

The Australian Institute of Marine Science operates and maintains a series of remote data stations situated on the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland and Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia.
