The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is Australia’s tropical marine research agency.
Our research into some of Australia’s iconic marine ecosystems guides their management and that of similar systems around the world. We do marine science that has practical benefit to the real world, providing high quality, large-scale and long-term research that is used by governments, industry and the wider community to make informed decisions about the Great Barrier Reef, North-West Shelf and Arafura and Timor Seas.
AIMS researchers at our locations in Townsville, Darwin and Perth have access to the best tools and equipment like the National Sea Simulator, cutting edge laboratories and our fleet of research vessels.
About this Opportunity
The North West Shoals to Shore (NWSS) research program is a three year, externally funded program that will address the need to understand the impacts of petroleum exploration and development on the Northwest Shelf. The program also provides research relevant to other industries within the region like fisheries and aquaculture as well as information for the wider Australian community.
As an experienced Project Manager, you will mainly manage the NWSS Research Program, be the primary point of contact for all project management matters relating to the project and provide high level support to the AIMS Program Leader and NWSS Theme Leaders.

This role is being offered for a minimum 3 year term and will be based in Perth, Western Australia.
You will have tertiary qualifications in marine science, environmental management or engineering, or equivalent industry experience, matched by significant experience managing large scale multi-faceted projects and be able to demonstrate:
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, including evidence of successful stakeholder engagement;
- Technical and resource project management expertise, including contract and budget oversight;
- Experience in planning and managing field activities in remote locations; and
- High level of strategic thinking and problem solving skills to be able to successfully deliver projects in dynamic and challenging situations.
